Naming Ceremony

Travelers take few things as importantly as their names. To them, it is their entire identity. Spirit of the Mountain, Watcher of the Forest, Weaver of Dreams - These names not only identify a Traveler, but serve as their purpose in life, a hearkening to the spirit they believe is inhabiting them; their name is a call to service. 

Upon hatching, a Traveler will be known only by various 'pet' names by its parents and village. These typically come as short, friendly sounds more akin to noises than proper names; however as they complete their ritualistic traversal of The Cycle, young Travelers are sent to a distant mountaintop ritual ground, alongside an experienced elder shaman. 

At this mountaintop, and under the full disc of their sister planet, hanging enormous in the sky, the shaman will build a fire in an ancient ritual circle built on a permanent confluence by the tribe's ancestors. Upon that fire, the shaman prepares a potently hallucinogenic ritual sacrament of herbs, bark and roots. Together, they drink, and prepare to consult the gods. 

The ceremony lasts five days of ritual chanting, purging, spiritual cleansing, catharsis and introspective trials; and as the gods finally speak at end of the fifth night, the shaman will repeat them, forever imprinting the words of a young Traveler's true name into their mind, body and soul alike.

During this ceremony, The Chosen Few are thought to be discovered by their patron gods, and granted their powers. The Chosen Travelers will never quite forget the sensation of the confluence at the Naming Ceremony site, and as a permanent side-affect of the sacraments' use, Travelers will begin to see the rivers of magical energy flowing all around them with a sort of sixth sense.
